365 Days Of Junk - Day 255

1983 Liz Claiborne Purse & Wallet

I come across these from time to time, and I get excited every time. Do you remember these????? When I was in grade school, all of the girls had to have one. We thought we were soooooo cool, especially if we had a fun color! This purse is a dark gray with black leather trim. And... It has a matching checkbook wallet! Also, these are the kind with the raised triangle all over the purse & wallet. I bought them together for $4.94.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 254

Ceramic Fruit Bowl

Is this really a bowl of fruit? It looks more like a tower of fruit. It's over a foot tall and heavy! I think it screams 1950's or 1960's! There is no maker name on it. I'm fairly certain that this was a ceramics project  that someone hand painted. It was only a couple of dollars in a Goodwill Store. I think it would be fun as a centerpiece for the holiday table. Thoughts?

365 Days Of Junk - Day 253

Pair of Round Wood & Metal Tables

I bought these from a Goodwill store. They were $9.99 each. They are not old or high quality, but they are in near perfect condition. They are a nice compact size, and fairly light weight. I think they are decent multipurpose tables, that were cheap. Not to mention, they are a matching pair! It is so tough to find a pair of matching end tables, and/or 4 matching chairs when you're junking! What do people do with their chairs? I have never broken a chair (or a table for that matter).

365 Days Of Junk - Day 252

Salvador Dali Prints

This is a collection of Salvadore Dali prints, by Taschen. I found it in a thrift store for $4.54. It is new and unopened! Score!

365 Days Of Junk - Day 251

Antique Arrow Wheelchair

This is a post about an item that I did not buy! Can you believe it?????? Anyway... I found this beauty in a local Goodwill Store. It is an old wood & metal wheelchair made by Arrow. It's really great, right? You're wondering why I didn't buy it, aren't you? Well, it's a really neat find (especially in a Goodwill Store) and it's a good condition, but the price was $75.57. That's not a terrible price, but it was more than I wanted to spend, plus I'm not sure what I could do with it. I also think it would be somewhat difficult to try to resell. So... I didn't buy it but I still wanted to share it with you (because I think it is the only time I will come across one of these in a thrift store). If you're interested, you can follow me on Instagram (melissablaircarter there also) to see more junk that I come across, but may not purchase.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 250

Vintage Black & white Woven Purse

This is a vintage, black & white purse. There is no maker name that I could find, but the tag says it was made int he British Crown Colony of Hong Kong. This purse was a $5 purchase. I like that it's black & white.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 249

Mid Century Modern Vanity Accessories

I guess this is a set of accessories to go in the bathroom on the vanity or a dressing table. It is ceramic with orange and teal polka dots. There is a tray, which holds a trinket/jewelry box, an ashtray, and a small square cup. I purchased all of these pieces, together, from a Goodwill Store for just a few dollars.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 248

Original Framed Painting

I am in love with this painting! I think it is done in oil. I'm guess that it must be an oil painting given it's age. The painting depicts a bottle of wine, a couple of fish, something green & leafy, maybe an apple, and some mushrooms. It is signed F May 1960's. And... I bought it with the frame, which is wooden and painted kind of a whitish blue. I'm not crazy about the frame, but it's not terrible either. I just think the painting would pop more with a different color frame. I found this gem in a Goodwill Store for less than $10! Oh... And it's a 16 x 20, a really nice size for hanging!

365 Days Of Junk - Day 247

Carved Wooden Box

This is a decorative, carved wooded box. It is a good size, just over a foot tall and approx 1.5 feet wide. I guess it's meant to be a trinket or jewelry box. It look old(ish), but I really don't think it's old. I think it's just a fun reproduction. Here's the thing... I paid $1 for it in a thrift store. Yes ONE DOLLAR! I think it has sooooooooo much potential for $1. It's in great shape, so you could leave it as it is. Or... It could be great painted almost any color imaginable! These are the purchases that I really love. At that kind of price, you really cannot go wrong and you can create a unique piece for your home!

365 Days Of Junk - Day 246

Macrame Giraffe

Yes, this is a crazy macrame giraffe. It is baby poop yellow & brown, and it is at least 4 feet tall/long. Does anyone do macrame anymore? I'm kind of embarrassed to admit that I think it's kind of cool. I think this giraffe would be adorbs in a little boy's room! I purchased this guy from a Goodwill Store. I don't remember exactly what I paid for it, but I think it was less than $6. I wouldn't have paid more than $6 for it!

365 Days Of Junk - Day 245

Green Bull Planter

This is a unique little planter. It is green and shaped like a bull. I took a picture of the bottom to show the markings, but I have no idea who the maker is. He is smallish, roughly the size of a saucer. I paid around a dollar for him in a Goodwill Store.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 244

Ceramic Turtle Cookie Jar

I like shopping for quirky cookie jars in thrift stores. I love the idea of collecting them, but I don't have the display space for such a collection. This is a vintage ceramic cookie jar, shaped like a turtle. He's cute, right? I may have paid less than $3 for him, I can't remember. I know that I didn't pay more than $6 for him.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 243

Vintage Beige Vinyl & Chrome Chairs

This is a pair of beige vinyl chairs. The frame is chrome. I suspect they are from the 70's or before. They are in pretty good shape, except that one is missing a button. They did need a good cleaning, though. Gross! They were less than $20 each!

365 Days Of Junk - Day 242

Brass Fireplace Tools

This is a set of brass fireplace tools. I'm not sure if they are technically "vintage", but they are definitely not new. And, they are HEAVY! These are perfect for this time of year, considering it was in the 20's in ATL, last night. Honestly, I bought these because I thought they were such a great deal (really that's the only reason). I don't need a toddler running about the house, wielding a fireplace tool like a sword. But... The set was less than $6!

365 Days Of Junk - Day 241

Black Bollman & Co. Wool Hat

I have a confession... I love hats. I love to buy hats, but I don't really like to wear them. I think i look ridiculous in hats. Seriously! It could be because I have a square head (SERIOUSLY!) or because I have LOTS of hair. The point to this confession is that I frequently look for hats, when I'm junking, but I never buy them for myself. That's probably more than you wanted to know about me...

This hat is a black, wool hat with great feathers on it. It is made by Bollman Hat Company. I thinks it's meant to be a men's hat, but I'm sure it could be either. It was a Goodwill Store purchase for less than $5.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 240

The Cracker Barrel by Pyrex

It was soooooo difficult to get a good picture of this thing! It is a clear glass cookie jar or cracker jar by Pyrex. I found it in a Goodwill Store for less than $5. I love the vintage look of it! It seems very retro to me.
