365 Days Of Junk - Day 165

Metal Serpent or Dragon Candle Holders

These are metal serpent or dragon shaped candle holders. I'm not sure what kind of metal they are. Maybe wrought iron that someone painted black. I'm really not sure but they were too fantastic to pass up (especially when I only paid a few dollars for the pair).

365 Days Of Junk - Day 164

Orange Balloon-Shaped Vase

This is an orange glass vessel of some sort. I guess it's a vase. It looks like a balloon to me. What do you think? Maybe like a water balloon? Do you see how the top looks like the opening to a balloon?

365 Days Of Junk - Day 163

Pocket Knives

This is a find that I really wish my maternal grandfather was alive to see! He would have loved them, and probably even had some like them! (I am a total sucker for items that remind me of my childhood and particularly of my grandparents!!!!) It is a lot of pocket knives. They were all bagged together, in a ziplock bag of course. There were 14 when I purchased them, but only 13 are pictured. I let Alex have one. Some of them are marked and some are not. I think 2 are Boy Scout knives. The one that Alex wanted was a Craftsman (I think). I found them in a thrift store and they were such a steal! I paid less than $20 for the entire lot of them!

Here's a good tip: a lot of times, you can get a REALLY good bargain when they package items together. It usually means that the individual pricing them items was unaware of the value of the individual pieces. That's just between you and me... OK?

365 Days Of Junk - Day 162

Vintage Osterizer Blender

This is a vintage Oster Beehive blender. It's chrome! I think it's a good mate for the Hamilton Beach stand mixer.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 161

Vintage Hamilton Beach Stand Mixer

I love cooking, even though you can't really tell it from this blog. So, I also love finding vintage kitchen items. This is a Hamilton Beach stand mixer, with all of the parts. And... It works! And... It's chrome! How fantastic is that?

As If By Magic, A Whale Appeared

The other night, I was playing around painting on heavy duty art paper, instead of canvas. I was just painting abstract shapes, when this whale appeared almost out of no where. I love it when that happens! Does that ever happen to you?

365 Days Of Junk - Day 160

Cat Painted On Burlap

This is a cat painted on what I think is burlap. The burlap has been painted orange. It was mounted on wood and framed. I love the cat's eyes!

If you enjoy seeing my blog posts, you can also follow me on Instagram. Instagram is my fav app and I love to post pics of my interesting finds there. My user name is melissablaircarter.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 159

Vintage Aigner Creel Style Purse

I really love this purse! It is an older (probably from the 70's) fishing basket/creel shoulder purse. Until I came across this one in a thrift store, I had never seen one like it.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 158

Vintage Jana Beaded Purse

This purse kind of reminds me of the purse that Sophie carried on The Golden Girls. Unfortunately, it is not as larger as hers was. It is made of dime size off-white beads and has bamboo handles. I read that purses by this company date to the 50's & 60's, but I',m not certain about that.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 157

Vintage White Cat Bookends by Lefton

Cute kitties, right?

365 Days Of Junk - Day 156

Pair Of Kitschy Pink Ceramic Rabbits

These guys just crack me up! To me, they are part cutesy and part demented bunny. As an artist, I'm not sure that I would have chosen the red bow ties for the pink rabbits. Hmm...

365 Days Of Junk - Day 155

Handmade Table with Vintage Linoleum Top

This is a handmade table with a patchwork sort of top. The top is apparently samples of vintage linoleum. The color of the top is actually bright & more vibrant than it appears in the pictures. Why don't they make linoleum like this anymore????? The colors are lots of fun!

365 Days of Junk - Day 154

Vintage Metalware Fish Platter by Arthur Court

Metalware serving pieces, are a recent fascination for me. I picked this guy u-p off the shelf because he's a cute fish. He's kinda chubby with a bit of a flat face. Then I noticed, that it's from 1976. That's the year I was born! (Should I admit that?????) I will buy almost anything that was made in 1976! (Wait... Should I admit that?????) Once I started researching this platter, I realized that he has a carnelian eye. I think the eye gives him extra personality!

365 Days Of Junk - Day 153

Vintage Cashmere Fedora by Knox

This is a vintage hat by Knox. It is a fedora style with a feather on the side. The thing that excited me the most is that it's made of cashmere! Honestly, I have no idea why I love that it's made of cashmere, but I do.

Darn! I just thought that I should have posted a picture of Sophie wearing it.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 152

Black Tony Lama Cowboy Boots

Boots are always something I look for, when I'm junking. I especially like cowboy/cowgirl boots. This is a pair of black, men's cowboy boots, made by Tony Lama. I think the bottom part of the boot is made of some type pf snake skin. I soooooo wish these would fit me!

365 Days Of Junk - Day 151

Making a Hand

I buy lots of book, but I haven't shared too many of them here. I think this one is very interesting. This is:  Making a Hand Growing Up Cowboy in New Mexico, with pictures by Gene Peach and text by Max Evans. I am so intrigued by Cowboys and the West, in general. Let's face it, Cowboys are hot! Anyway, I love that this book is signed by Gene Peach! So neat!

365 Days Of Junk - Day 150

Pieced Wooden Bowl

This is a really interesting bowl made of different types of wood pieced together. I like it because of all of the different colors and shapes of wood used.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 149

Royale By Kroehler Sofa

This is a vintage, orange, velvet sofa marked Royale by Kroehler. I found it in a thrift store. It is in pretty good condition, given it's age. It just has some wear to the piping. It's groovy, right?

365 Days Of Junk - Day 148

Coach Poppy Evie Tote

This was a Goodwill store find! I can't believe it! I think it is such a cute Coach tote bag. It is red, coated canvas with white graffiti style writing. It is in like new condition too! Oh... It was less than $10! Can you believe it?

365 Days Of Junk - Day 147

1987 Fitz & Floyd Pig Pitcher

I almost always buy vintage Fitz & Floyd pieces, when they are in good condition. I also have a thing for pigs. So, this was a win win! I think he is adorable and has great colors.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 146

Black & White Spaniel Mantle Dog

I guess this guy is considered a mantle dog? Right? Because you would put him on your mantle...

I think he's adorbs! I love his gold collar & leash. It was just too bad that I didn't find a pair of them.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 145

Vintage Playskool Wooden Ride On Toy

This is a vintage, Playskool ride on toy. It's a bike or a scooter (or something kinda like that). I have seen listings on Ebay that date these back to the 60's. I'm not really sure how old it is, but I have a thing for vintage ride on toys. So, I couldn't not resist buying this one for just a few dollars. It's in pretty good condition, too. It's only missing the streamers on the handlebars.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 144

Shabby Chic White Wood Candle Holders

This is a great pair of white, wooden candle holders. They are large, approximately 2 feet tall. I love the shabby chic look of them! It's also great they there is a pair of them. It can be tough to find a pair or a complete set of anything, when you're junking. In fact, I bought one of them on one day, and the other was nowhere to be found. But... I got lucky because I found the mate, a day or two later. I love the thrill of the hunt!

365 Days Of Junk - Day 143

Mid Century Modern Bar Stools with M Monogram

I was shocked when I found these in a thrift store! I think they are amazing! It may have something to do with the M on them.

Anyway, they have white vinyl seats with the M monogrammed on the back. The back of the seats are covered with an amazing gray and white fabric. The discoloration of the fabric is due to the fact that I photographed them while they were still wet. Once they dried, they looked great! Then, as you can probably tell from the photos, they have a metal base. Love!
