Painting

In between junking, I've been trying to do some painting and drawing. I never have enough time. Probably because I try to do too many things.

This is a small mixed media piece that I did...

This is graphite & acrylics on paper. I did this for an online course, Make Art That Sells, with Lilla Rogers. Our assignment was to create a holiday themed card.

Here is an abstract that I painted, recently...

I actually painted over a canvas that I had used for part one of Make Art That Sells, to create this piece. I still have the dream of opening an Etsy shop. I know it's not difficult to OPEN an Etsy shop, I'm just having a tough time with the idea of putting myself "OUT THERE". I did to be brave, but it's oh so difficult!

365 Days Of Junk - Day 235

Metal Frame Thonet Armchair

This chair is from Thonet!!!!!!! Can you believe it? I found it in a thrift store for $40! Yay! The frame of the chair is metal, aluminum I suspect. It is covered in lime green vinyl. Groovy!

365 Days Of Junk - Day 234

Vintage Saks Fifth Avenue Purse

This purse was a steal! I found it in a thrift store (not Goodwill) for $3! It is gray suede and leather with brass details. It is from Saks Fifth Avenue and is in great condition.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 233

Vintage Woolrich Plaid Jacket

This is the classic red & black plaid, wool jacket from Woolrich. It's in great shape, but I think it may be missing a hood. I think this kind of jacket will never go out of style! Yet another Goodwill Store find!

365 Days Of Junk - Day 232

Vintage Pink Dress

I love this dress! I've been on a clothing kick, recently. Can you tell? I really only like to purchase vintage jackets/coats and dresses. I don't usually even look at pants, skirts, or tops. I'm not sure why that is. Hmm... Some kind of traumatic childhood experience, I'm sure. Just kidding! It's probably because it's faster for me to  look through the coats and dresses.

Anyway... Let me repeat, I love this dress. It is a great color of pink, a little darker than bubblegum pink. It is short (knee length) with long sleeves. Would you call that a mandarin style collar? This was another Goodwill purchase!

365 Days Of Junk - Day 231

Vintage Black Jumpsuit

I think this piece is really fun! It looks like a sleeveless dress, but it's actually a a pantsuit/jumpsuit. I really love the floral trim detail! Do think this is from the 60's? 70's? It doesn't have any tags or labels, so I have no idea. It could have been handmade for all I know. I found it in a Goodwill Store for less than $10.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 230

Vintage Sears Hunting Jacket

This hunting jacket is totally something that one of my grandfathers would have had, except they didn't really hunt. Although, my paternal grandfather did go ginseng hunting. That meant that he would tromp through the woods of rural VA and look for ginseng. Sometimes he would use a fancy pick and dig it up to transplant it. They would also try to get the berries to grow.

Anyway... Back to the jacket... The label says Sears Action Rite Sportswear. It is in great shape and has all of the pockets and pouches that a hunter needs. Including a place to hold bullets for a shotgun and a pouch to put you squirrel/rabbit/duck/quail/dove or whatever after you have successfully killed it. I don't think this jacket was ever used for the random slaughter of animals, it's in too good shape for that. The only signs of wear that I found, in or on this jacket, were some crumpled tissues in the pocket. (Kind of gross, but I washed it thoroughly). I found this in a Goodwill Store. I'm not sure if they charged me the jacket price or the winter coat price, but either way it was less than $10.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 229

Christian Dior Trench Coat

This is a Christian Dior trench coat. I'm not sure of the age, I'm guessing it may be from the 80s. I found it in a Goodwill Store. No joke! It was regular price, so I paid less that $10 for it! I was doing a little happy dance when I found it, because how often do you find Christian Dior items in a thrift store?????? SCORE!!!!!!

365 Days Of Junk - Day 228

Sock Monkeys

These are for reals sock monkeys, made with the old school kind of socks! To me, they appear to be a boy & a girl sock monkey. I bought them, because I just couldn't resist (obviously) and they were like a dollar each. I have an oldish sock monkey that was made for me or given to me, as a young child. It came from my great grandmother. So, sock monkeys are near and dear to my heart. This type of sock is no longer made, right? Does anyone know?

365 Days Of Junk - Day 227

Donald Pliner Couture Peep Toe Pumps

I love these shoes! Too bad, they are a little bit too small for me. I think they have a vintage look to them. One side is a leopard print cow hide, and the other side is brown suede.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 226

Vintage Samsonite Silhouette Carry On

I find lots of the vintage Samsonite Silhouette luggage, and it's usually yellow. Not that yellow is bad, I just come across it frequently in thrift stores. I like this particular bag a little more than most that I have seen. It's got a nice square or rectangular shape. I found it in a Goodwill Store for less than $5, I think.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 225

Ransburg Ice Bucket

This is a Mid Century ice bucket by Ransburg. It is made of wood on the ouside and still has the original tongs with it. I think if you need an ice bucket for a party, you might as well have a cool one!

365 Days Of Junk - Day 224

Vintage Boy Scout Canteen

This is an older Boy Scout canteen. It still has the canvas cover on it. I thought it was a fun reminder of simpler days for less than $2!

365 Days Of Junk - Day 223

Vintage Galaxy Trav-Ler Suitcase

This is a smallish, vintage suitcase. The tag reads, Galaxy Trav-Ler made in Japan. Sophisticated name, right? I bought it because it was just a few dollars and I like the green, paisley pattern. When I was cleaning it up, I was excited (thrilled actually) to find an old sewing kit that had been left inside. Does that make me a dork? (Don't answer that, please!). I am also excited that it still has the key with it, and the lock is still attached.

365 Days Of Junk - Day 222

Hand Bookends

Here is a set/pair of hand bookends. They are made of metal, brass I assume. Maybe bronze????? Does anyone know an easy way to tell the difference?

Either way, they are metal hand bookends. I am trying to decide if they are supposed to be prayer hands or just hands that fit together to hold up books. Thoughts? They kind of remind me of "Thing" from the Adams Family. "Thing" was the hand, right?

I found them in a Goodwill Store for less than $10. I think they are interesting and unique. For purposes of the blog, I left the original price tag on. They were originally purchased from JCP, with a price of $31.99. That seems kind of spensive to me, especially for back in the day!

365 Days Of Junk - Day 221

Men's Red Wing Boots

Here is another example of great boots that won't fit me!!!!!! These are great looking, vintage, classic Red Wing boots. They are a men's size 10.5C. I think they would look so great this fall! If they only fit me!
